Oftentimes when Candace and I are getting together, we know we want to hang out but don't wanna just sit around watching TV or a movie, so we'll try to find something random to do out on the town that evening. Well, this took the form of attending a free indie art gallery exhibit presented by the Plastic Aztecs, a local "art collective." The show was called "The Intergalactic Strongthang Competition" and centered around a fictitious and absurd athletic event where all sorts of strange (and strangely-dressed) aliens competed to win assorted trophies littered around the room.
The reason we were attracted to this show was that one of the local indie papers, Creative Loafing, had done a write-up lauding the trio of female artists for their ingenuity and daring showmanship, so considering the subject matter and the fact that the show was free, we thought it should be interesting.
Unfortunately, either we missed a big part of the show's presentation or the write-up had exaggerated its claims on how great it was going to be, as there wasn't really much of an interactive experience (as advertised), the show didn't seem nearly as well tied together as supposed, and the amount of art was ultimately kind of underwhelming. I mean, I did enjoy a number of the pieces featured, so I think inflated expectations were the real experience-killer here.
Still, I'm glad we checked it out for the 15 minutes it took to see it all (actually, we might have spent longer trying to find the gallery itself...), but I'm going to be a little wary of Creative Loafing's write-ups from this point on.
