First Vocal Lesson

This past Monday, I had my first actual vocal lesson, which is only 30 minutes, unlike the hour-long evaluation I had had the week before. Now, while I do feel like I'm learning important techniques and ideas in my time with my teacher thus far, it does feel like 30 minutes isn't quite long enough to get much done. In this lesson, all we were able to do was talk about anatomy as it relates to singing and then practice some diaphragm support exercises while laying on my belly on the floor (which is also the only assignment I've been given thus far).

I understand that learning to breathe in a manner most conducive to singing is at the foundation of becoming a much more solid singer and that exercises to achieve this have to be done on a regular basis so as to make the physical actions required more subconscious, but it does feel a little weird not actually singing anything yet. Supposedly we'll be going over warm-up/cooldown exercises next week, but it's not until the week after that we'll finally start singing stuff.

I'm sure this is all standard procedure and is ultimately best for me, but I guess I was hoping I would have more to work on at this point. I'll keep you posted as my studies develop.
