With the addition of our new keyboard player Emily to our band, I've been caught up in a self-induced obsession with finding out as much as possible about the synths that are both currently on the market and those of yesteryear that we might be able to pick up for cheap on Ebay. See, although Emily has played keys a good bit in other groups, she never actually owned her own keyboard and as such has committed to buying one for the group with some money she's about to come into via her grandmother.
Now, I've always been a huge fan of music gear (très sexy, n'est-ce pas?), but sometimes this passion kicks into overdrive, partly as a means to entertaining myself instead of wasting time on random YouTube videos...there are lots of internet resources for synth lovers, and I've been availing myself of many of them. I've also been to Guitar Center twice in the past week, trying out the new Roland Juno line (which is a perfect fit for Emily, I think).
Lastly, I've been spending a lot of time playing my own synths again. I currently own two: the Roland XP-80 workstation (which has been my main workhorse for keyboard performance and at-home writing since I was in high school) and an Alesis Micron (which I picked up just before moving to Holland but unfortunately never got a whole lot out of...more on the reasons for this later?). I used to own a Korg MS2000R, but it broke when I dropped it while living at 805 in Bloomington...oops.
Synths are so awesome!
