Matrix Trilogy
The other set of four movies I bought for only $10 at Target was the entire Matrix Trilogy, plus the Animatrix, which I'll cover in another post since it's technically not part of the official storyline and since this was my first time seeing it, unlike the feature films.
While I had seen all three Matrix films before, I had only seen the first one a lot, and it's entirely possible I had only seen the third one once (in the theatre). My recollection of those films was that they got worse with each pass, despite the fact that the first film was incredible, groundbreaking, and highly influential in popular culture. Well, upon viewing them all again, I would still say this is true, but I might argue that the second film isn't nearly as bad as I had remembered (the third is still pretty lackluster and heavy-handed though).
Ultimately, I found that the first two films had a lot to say about philosophy, some of the depth of which I probably missed in my previous viewings, and as such were quite entertaining, but the third film starts spending too much time on this whole Neo as Christ-figure thing and too much time in the real world. Sure, it wraps up the storyline, but be it as it may, I kinda feel like being left with a non-conclusive ending at the end of either the first or second film would have been fine.
Still, I loved watching these movies again, and am happy to have them in my DVD collection now.
